The Simple Oak Leaf pendant is available in hammered brass or copper wire. If there are none in stock, feel free to request one of your own! As these are hand made, there may be slight differences between pieces. I’ve posted pictures of multiple pieces, so you can see some of what you might expect.
The Mighty Oak
The oak brings to mind childhood memories of these towering giants, whose leaves were one of the easier ones to draw (especially compared with the maple!), and whose acorns were like a mass of treasure for the taking to line up in window sills, or make crafts out of in the fall.
Meanings Throughout History (and in Fantasy)
Due to their size and long life spans, oaks are often seen as a symbol of strength and longevity. The oak tree was held sacred by many cultures throughout history.
The Celtic word for their priests, ‘druid‘ comes from their word for oak, and may have meant ‘knowledge of the oak‘. Known as the ‘King of the Forest’, the oak symbolizes life, power, and wisdom.
For the Greeks and Romans the oak was the tree of the gods Zeus (Greek) and Jupiter (Roman). Roman commanders who were victorious would be presented with crowns of oak leaves.
In Norse mythology, the oak was the tree of Zeus, as it was often struck by lightning. Many of connected the oak tree with the world tree Yggdrasil, the immense tree that connected the nine worlds.
In J.K. Rowling’s world of Harry Potter, wands made of oak wood showed their user to be especially loyal (think of Rubeus Hagrid!).
